Dan Gillmor on Grassroots JournalismMore Bad Behavior by 'Journalists'
Wall Street Journal (subscription)How Companies Pay TV Experts For On-Air Product Mentions. Plugs Come Amid News Shows And Appear Impartial; Pacts Are Rarely DisclosedOnce again, we read a story of improper activities by people who appear to be journalists.
The most depressing part of this story isn't the individual
behavior, though that's bad enough. It's the way these commentators'
big-network employers -- maybe that should be enablers -- go through
such contortions of logic to defend what's going on.
The New Singapore Casino's
Submitted by bennu on Wed, 2005-05-04 06:24.The rise of crime, social fallout, and the rising moral implications of casino's... The real reason behind the Casino's: Money.fromchannelnewasia
Tan Soo Khoon, MP for East Coast GRC, said, "I am not a purist or
moralist. I am a worrier. I worry about the social fallout and whether
we can manage them. I worry whether the safeguards we will put in place
are adequate to deal with the problems that we will face when the lure
of gambling will now be elevated to a new level of glitz and glamour
hitherto not found in 4D, Toto and horse racing.
"It is not about whether the pro-casino camp has won or whether the
anti-casino camp has lost. In the end, it is Singapore that must win.
The government has made its call. I only hope it has drawn the right
card from the deck."
Opposition MP Chiam See Tong of Potong Pasir said, "We are of the
view that the permission when given to establish a casino in Singapore
is the first step down the slippery slope.
"Singapore has over the past 40 years, painstakingly developed
itself into a clean honest hardworking and organised society. All this
shall eventually be destroyed or diluted into a form which we may not
like for our future."
Fear may be the worst enemy of the human species

how many times has it stopped me from doing the things I could. Too
many, and often it is only ourselves to blame. I hope this is a good
resource for you.-BennuIt is Enough To Make You Sick
It causes some people a constant and gnawing pain in the pit of the
stomach.
Others drink more or smoke more because of it.
A King Blogs?
Submitted by bennu on Wed, 2005-04-06 03:51.I read this from Dan Gilmore,
very interesting that the King of Cambodia has a blog. Perhaps this is
the begining of more open communication and speach between the seeming
high ivory towers of political and government power to the populous.I really believe that the balance of power is shifting.here is the blog:A King Sihanouk Blog
Citing information from the CIA's Foreign Broadcast Information Service, the Federation of American Scientists is reporting that Cambodia's King Sihanouk has a blog.
The works to which this refers seem to stretch the definition of a
blog, but it's fascinating to see a political leader talking this way.
